The D3 Nursing Study Program at STIKES Notokusumo Yogyakarta has organized
Geronic nursing clinical practice for 1 week with one of the expert lecture agendas
as a supplement to the learning material for Gerontic nursing clinical practice with the theme
“Managing the Elderly with Degenerative Diseases for the elderly during the Covid -19 Pandemic”.
This expert lecture program was held on Thursday 6 May 2021 and was attended
by 179 sixth semester students. This activity was carried out online using zoom media. The resource person for this activity was Mr. Muh Fathoni Rohman SKM. She is a
nurse who works at BPSTW Jogyakarta.
In the material it is explained that the diseases experienced by the elderly are non-communicable diseases that are degenerative in nature or caused by age factors, for example
heart disease, diabetes mellitus, stroke, rheumatism and injury. These diseases
are chronic diseases, have high costs, and if not cured will cause
inability or disability so that the elderly cannot carry out daily activities. The role of nurses is very large in providing nursing care to elderly patients with degenerative diseases. Risk factors that contribute to osteoporosis and fractures
osteoprorosis:1. Female, 2. over 65 years old, 3. Smoking, 4. Family history of osteoporosis and osteoporous fractures, 5. Not consuming enough calcium (past and
now, 6. Not consuming enough vitamin D, 7. Not consuming enough Consumption of vitamin D, 8. Small bone mass, 9. Excessive alcohol consumption, 10. Pathological conditions: hypogonadism, hyperparathyroidism, thyrotoxicosis, malabsorption, decreased stomach acid, 11. Medications:
corticosteroids , anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, immunosuppressants, antihormonals. As well as

evaluation.
