Pharmaceutical service is a direct and responsible service to patients related to pharmaceutical preparations with the aim of achieving maximum results in improving the patient’s quality of life. A pharmacist is required to understand the basic principles in implementing pharmaceutical services in health facilities such as pharmacies, health centers, clinics and hospitals. Understanding the basic principles of pharmaceutical services is not enough just to be conveyed in the regular lecture system, but must be given examples of direct application in the world of work. In this way, pharmacy students will have an overview of the application of pharmaceutical services and examples of problems that often occur.
In order to increase students’ understanding, an expert lecture was held with a resource pharmacist from the hospital pharmacy sector, namely Mrs. Apt. Caesariana Desi Saraswati S.Farm who comes from Yogyakarta City Regional Hospital. This lecture was held on Thursday, December 17 2020 via an online system. The online lecture system is used because it is still in the atmosphere of the Covid-19 pandemic. The participants in this lecture were around 46 people consisting of level I and II students, S1 Pharmacy STIKES Notokusumo Yogyakarta. This event starts from 09.00 to 11.00 WIB. The participants were very enthusiastic about this expert lecture activity which was shown in filling in their impressions and messages so that similar activities could be held regularly.
The material in this expert lecture takes the theme of pharmaceutical services in hospitals. This material is related to the Pharmacy I and II courses that students have taken in regular lectures and practicums. An overview of the flow of pharmaceutical services in outpatient and inpatient care is explained very comprehensively, accompanied by examples of cases that often occur by the resource person. The basic principles of the flow of prescription services in outpatient and inpatient settings are almost the same, starting from the prescription being sent to the pharmacy, then screening, dose calculation, compounding to administering the drug to the patient.
