Monday, April 12 2021 STIKES Notokusumo held a basic nursing expert lecture
in the 3rd week with the theme “Activity Needs for Stroke Patients in the Hospital”. This expert lecture was delivered by a nurse at the National Brain Center Hospital, Prof.Dr.dr.Mahar
Mardjono Jakarta, namely Mrs. Marda Utami, S.Kep.,Ns. After attending this expert lecture, it is hoped that students will have an idea of how to provide care to stroke patients. In this virtual expert lecture it was conveyed that stroke sufferers in Indonesia are increasing every year. One of the impacts of stroke is impaired motor function, which results in stroke patients requiring assistance in carrying out daily activities and requiring long treatment times. Nurses play an important role in increasing
patient independence, such as assessing, assisting, and teaching daily activities
to families and stroke patients so that patients are able to fulfill their needs.
Implementation of nurses in fulfilling the daily activities of stroke patients in Hospitals
are carried out to prevent the occurrence of disabilities (physical disabilities) which result in stroke sufferers experiencing difficulty in carrying out daily activities. Patients need help in carrying out activities such as eating, dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, controlling elimination, moving and mobilizing independently. Nurses have an important role in assisting with activities of daily living (ADL) for stroke patients. The nurse’s action is to assess the patient’s needs with the aim of finding out the patient’s general condition. Assessment is important to determine appropriate nursing interventions and implementation. Apart from that, nurses have a role in helping patients in their daily activities and helping organize the patient’s daily activities. The third role is to provide support and education to patients and other people who help care for patients. If nurses do not provide nursing care related to ADL for stroke patients, it can hinder the fulfillment of the patient’s needs.
